Actions and Feelings
Actions create feelings, and feelings also drive us to action, which is why it’s so important when picking a Word of the Year to get really clear on the way you want to feel, which will generate the outcomes you desire.
When you’re seeking to achieve a goal, you’re not chasing an outcome; you’re chasing the feeling you’d get once you’re there. We’ve all been there, we think when we get X, we will feel Y, but instead we feel empty, or disappointed that our long-term goal didn’t bring us truly what we wanted.
For your goals, or Word of the Year, I invite you to reflect on the way you want to feel, then, brainstorm long and short term actions you can take to get there. This will ensure that you’re on the right track (you will get where you want to feel), and that there are sufficient action steps to bring you what you desire.
In the past I made the mistake of choosing “radiant” as my Word ot the Year. Other than a specific radiance meditation, or wearing something shiny, I had a hard time taking action that generated radiance.
Once you know the feeling you’d like to generate, brainstorm 10-15 short and long term actions you can take to give you that feeling now. Do the same for actions that will bring you the feeling later. Go back to this list often to get yourself exactly where you truly desire.
