First Step in Changing Your Life

Being on the path of transformation and achieving our goals first requires awareness of exactly where we’re at. When we’re living automatically and not thinking about how our actions impact our outcomes, we assume that life’s circumstances only happen to us.

Having awareness that you have a problem, issue, or pain point in your life, something you’d like to be going differently, is the first step in changing your life. Without this awareness, you’re still the victim of life, and if life only happens to us, then we are unable to create change in our circumstances.

Along with awareness comes accountability. How are you at cause for exactly where you’re at? With this idea, you gain so much power over your life. How have the actions you’ve done, or things you’ve avoided doing, brought you exactly where you are today?

The pain point you’re currently facing, or the life aspect you’d like to change, is only the tip of the iceberg. It’s not your job, your partner, or your lack of money causing your pain. Instead, it’s the why deep beneath this surface issue.

For me, a sense of low self worth kept me people pleasing old bosses, working around the clock, afraid to say no and instead putting their desires and feelings above my own. With money, you might think you just never have enough, but what about how you feel around it? Maybe you don’t feel safe receiving large amounts, or not good enough to manage a surplus. Show up with curiosity (not judgment!), and discover how the way you’re showing up in this pain point is the way you’re showing up to other areas of life.

Once you gain more clarity, think back on where you’ve had similar low feelings and beliefs in your past. Maybe it’s shown up in relationships, or the way you care for yourself. This increased awareness will give you an “aha” moment, preparing you to take the action to shift your results.

While having awareness and taking accountability of your current situation may cause some pain, you can’t create change if you don’t first start exactly where you’re at. Consider this awareness a gift, because if left undiscovered, the behaviours surrounding it will continue to keep you stuck indefinitely.
